The Secretary General for International Organization for Standardization (ISO), Mr. Rob Steel has urged all manufacturers in the country to adhere to the standards to produce quality products and services that will international markets.
Mr. Rob made the remarks recently during the grant of licences ceremony to 17 manufacturers under “tbs” Standards Mark Licences category and 2 manufacturers under licence extension categories on products, at Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) Headquarters in Dar es Salaam.
Mr. Rob who was in the country for three-day visit said all licencees are heroes as through standards they can now sell their products everywhere without any restrictions.
“With certificate you open up business, therefore you are obliged to keep on producing quality products,” he insisted.
However Mr. Rob commended manufactures for the effort made for them to acquire ‘tbs’ mark of quality and this is an indication that they observe standards in their production.
Prior to Rob’s remarks, a manufacturer Basil Mwasamila pledged to adhere to quality and standards when producing goods in order to increase income and avoid unnecessary problem with the relevant authorities.
Mwasamila said it was high time locally produced products be tested, hence compete at local and international markets.
On his part, TBS Acting Director General Mr. Leandri Kinabo commended the manufacturers for their efforts which enabled them to be certified by TBS and encouraged more companies to apply for ‘tbs’ mark hence issued with licences after fulfilling all the necessary procedures.
Companies issued with ‘tbs’ standards mark licences with their products in brackets (vacuum flasks), Kahama Oil Mills Ltd (Galvanized Corrugated Iron Sheets, Metal RoofingTiles and Pre Painted Steel Sheets), Salama Poly Bag Company ( Plastic Carrier Bags) and Bellavies Fresh Fruits Processing Industry Ltd (Drinking water).
Other companies are New Forest Company Ltd (Treated Wood Ples), Mama Fresh Company Ltd ( Drinking water)., New Times Steel Company Ltd ( Galvanized Corrugated Sheets), Mwasa Business Development Services (Drinking Water), Tan Natural Company Ltd (Sunflower Seed Oil) and Mapenna Investment Ltd (Sunflower Seed Oil).
Footlose Tanzania LTD (Sunflower Seed Oil), I.C.K. Cotton Oil Company Ltd (Cotton Seed Oil Ltd (Cotton Seed Oil), Canon General Supplies Ltd (Potable Spirits), Kilangi Investment Company Ltd (Drinking Water)Tridea Cosmetic Ltd (Body lotion and creams) were also granted with ‘tbs’ standards mark licences.
Manufactures granted with license extension with their products in brackets were Sayona Drinks Ltd (Carbonated Soft Drinki-Sayona Twist Spark) and Fish Eagle industries Ltd( Carbonated soft drinks-strawberry flavoured sparkling , mango flavoured sparkling water, cream soda, tonic water, ginger ale, sparkling water lemons lime, sparkling lemon and natural sparkling water).
