NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC

IMPLEMENTATION OF PRE-SHIPMENT VERIFICATION OF CONFORMITY TO STANDARDS (PVoC)

Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) started inspecting and verifying the quality of products destined to Tanzania in countries of origin prior to shipment from 1st February, 2012.  This is done under the Pre-shipment Verification of Conformity to Standards (PVoC) programme.

TBS wishes to remind all importers and the public in general that all consignments are required to be verified for conformity to the requirements of applicable standards before shipment to Tanzania.  The consignments which comply with the standard requirements will be issued Certificate of Conformity (CoC).

From 1st August, 2012, consignments which are not accompanied with CoC will be subjected to 15% penalty (CIF value) and then be subjected to Destination Inspection.

Consignments that do not comply with the standards requirements, will be re-exported to the country of origin or destructed at the owner’s cost.

To avoid this inconvenience, all importers are urged to ensure their consignments are verified by one of the following TBS PVoC partners who may be contacted all over the world:

1) Intertek
2) Bureau Veritas
3) SGS

Details of their locations throughout the world are posted at our website: http://www.tbs.go.tz.
