TBS, ZBS LAUNCH SPECIAL COMMITTEE FOR COLLABORATION

Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) and Zanzibar Bureau of Standards (ZBS) have launched a special committee for collaboration that will assist the two organizations to work effectively on the issues of standardization and quality assurance.

Launching the committee at ZBS offices in Zanzibar recently, the Zanzibar Deputy Minister for Trade, Industry and Marketing, Ms. Thuwaiba Erdington Kisasi commended a good job done by the bureaus, adding that ZBS particularly needs such collaboration to be able to take off and excel.

Ms. Thuwaiba said both Mainland and Isles Ministries will always support the bureaus’ efforts by ensuring that standardization and quality assurance activities are handled effectively and all challenges that standards bodies face are contained.

The special committee shall have powers to formulate memoranda of understanding (MoU) on standardization and quality assurance, review MoU from time to time as case may be, present to CEOs for approval and advice CEOs on all matters related to standardization and quality assurance. Further, the committee will have powers to form working groups to deliberate on specific matters as requested, co-opt at any meeting it so wishes, any expert from the NSBs, or any person in his capacity to deliberate on specific matters presented before the committee.

The special committee constitutes of eight members, four from each bureau. The members are Mr. Suleiman Makame (Legal Officer-ZBS), Mr. Dunstan Kalugira (Testing and Callibration Manager-TBS), Ms Rahima Ali Bakar (Certification Officer-ZBS) and Mr. Ali Hamad Ali (Laboratory Officer-ZBS). Others are Mr. Baptister Bitaho (Head of Legal Unit-TBS), Mr. Mathias Missanga (Standards Officer-TBS), Mr. Lazaro Msasalaga (Head of Agriculture and Food Section-TBS) and Mr. Haji Hamis Omar (Standards Officer-ZBS).
