Three Technical Committees Deliberate on Various Draft Tanzania Standards

Three Technical Committees convened on 12 and 13 May, 2009, at the Tanzania Bureau of Standards to deliberate on a variety of draft Tanzania standards.

The Packaging Technical Committee met on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, and discussed four draft Tanzania standards which were subsequently passed. The draft Tanzania standards will now be presented to the Executive Council for consideration.

According to the Packaging Technical Committee Secretary, Mr. Cyril Kimario, all the four draft Tanzania standards are revisions of existing standards. Normally, Tanzania Standards undergo revision after every five years or anytime when demand arises.

Meanwhile, the Agriculture and Food Divisional Standards Committee (AFDC) met on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 12 and 13, 2009, respectively and deliberated on a total of 94 draft Tanzania standards in the agriculture and food sector.

AFDC Secretary, Dr. Claude Mosha said the draft Tanzania standards which were discussed during the meeting include eight codes of hygiene, 22 specifications and 64 ISO/EAS sampling and test methods for adoption.

In another meeting held on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, the Alcoholic Beverage Technical Committee considered two draft Tanzania standards on alcoholic beverages.

The Committee’s Secretary, Mr. Faustin Masaga said during the meeting the draft Tanzania standard on non cereal based alcoholic beverage was considered, while the draft Tanzania standard on rosella based alcoholic beverage was disposed for public comments.
