Metrology Services

This is an accredited laboratory which has been given the statutory responsibility for establishing custody and maintenance of the National Measurement Standards related to all physical parameters, at internationally accepted level of accuracy and to disseminate the SI Units of measurement by providing traceability to the public via the National Measurement Standards.

The laboratory undertakes apex level calibration of measurement standards and precision instruments in various fields of measurements such as length, mass, temperature, Time Intervals, volume (including vertical and horizontal bulk storage tanks), pressure, electrical measurements in DC/AC Voltage(at low Frequency) ,Current and Resistance.

Temperature measurements
In temperature measurements, the laboratory has the following capabilities (ranges in brackets):

a) Thermocouples (- 30 ºC to 1,200ºC)
b) Ice Point Reference (0.0 ºC)
c) Platinum Resistance Thermometers/RTDs (-30 ºC to 600 ºC)
d) Thermometers
i) Liquid-in-glass Thermometers(-30ºC to 600 ºC)
ii) Digital Thermometers,
- RTD & Thermistor, (-30 ºC to 250 ºC)
- Thermocouple (-30 ºC to 1,200 ºC)

e) Isothermal Media Evaluation

Autoclaves

i) Temperature (20 ºC to 140 ºC)
ii) Pressure (0 kPa to 140 kPa)
iii) Time (0 minutes to 120 minutes)

f) Temperature installations for ovens, incubators, stirred liquid baths, fridges, freezers, coldrooms, hot plates, humidity chambers and thermohygraphs (-30 ºC to 400 ºC)
g) Muffle furnace (1,200 ºC max.)

Mass measurements

On the part of mass measurements, the laboratory has the following capabilities:
a) Mass piece in the ranges

i) 1 mg to 20 g
ii) 20 g to 1 kg
iii) 1 kg to 20 kg

b) Weighing instruments (Digital Self Indicating) within the ranges
i) 0 g to 20 g
ii) 20 g to 1 kg
iii) 1 kg to 20 kg
iv) 20 kg to 250 kg
v) 250 kg to 5 tons

Pressure measurements

The laboratory also has capabilities in pressure measurements as follows (ranges in brackets):

c) Pressure gauges (Gas) (0 Bar - 6 Bar), 0.1 Bar minimum)

Volume measurements

On the part of volume measurements, the laboratory has the following capabilities:

a) Volumetric Measures: Laboratory glassware within the following ranges:

ii) 5ml-1,500 ml
iii) 1.5l – 20l

b) Bulk volume Tank - Up to 45 000 000 litres.

Dimensions measurements

In dimensions measurements, the Metrology Laboratory has the following capabilities (ranges in brackets):

c) Micrometer screw gauge (0 mm - 400 mm)
d) Metre Rule (0 mm -1,000 mm)

Time and frequency measurements

In time and frequency measurements, the laboratory has the following capabilities (range in brackets):

In electrical measurements, the Metrology Laboratory has the following capabilities (ranges in brackets):
