The Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) has handed over new toilets to Chamugasa Primary School in Busega District, Simiyu Region, as part of its commitment to support government initiatives aimed at improving the learning environment.
The 7m/- worth project is designed to address the shortage of toilets at the school.
“We give back to the community what we receive. This initiative aims to facilitate the significant efforts made by the government to enhance the learning environment for students,” said Ms Happy Kanyeka, TBS Regional Manager for the Lake Zone.
Ms Kanyeka also took the opportunity to educate students on recognizing products certified by TBS and the importance of reading the information on the products they purchase.
“She reminded students to check for the TBS logo and read the details, especially the expiration date, when shopping,” she emphasized.
The School’s Headmistress, Ms Redempta Missanga, commended TBS for its support in constructing the new toilets, noting that the school, established in 1959, still faces challenges, including a shortage of eight classrooms and 200 desks.
“This school has 678 students (345 girls and 333 boys) and eight teachers (five women and three men). We urge other stakeholders to continue supporting efforts to improve teaching and learning environments,” said Ms. Missanga.
On behalf of the students, Ms. Elizabeth Mafayo expressed gratitude to TBS for contributing to the construction of new toilets, stating that these facilities have alleviated the challenges they previously faced.
“We had been facing challenges with the lack of toilets, and we thank TBS for helping us build new ones. Now there are no more issues,” she said.
