TBS urged to involve public in war against low quality goods

Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) has been urged to make public involvement in the fight against substandard goods in the market.

The plea has been made by the Acting Ulanga District Executive Director Andreas Whero recently during a special education campaign to the people in area to create awareness on how to identify quality goods from counterfeits.

"TBS is doing commendable job but there is need to further involve thw public in the war against poor quality products in the market," he said.

He urged TBS to continue conducting impromtu inspections as way to seize low quality goods and also take stern measures against the culprits.

Through the awareness campaign, TBS reached 2276 people including 118 entrepreneurs in Malinyi , Ulanga, Gairo and Mvomero districts in Morogoro Region.

The TBS Marketing and Public Relations Manager, Gladness Kaseka said the aim of the campaign is to reach people at the grassroots level and participate actively in uprooting low quality goods in the shelves and ultimately protect the country's economy.

"Todate, we have reached people including SMEs in 63 districts in the country and are equipped with knowledge on how to identify how to identify fake goods from the shelves," she said.

The TBS Inspector Mr Kaiza Kilango reminded the public on their obligation to cooperate and provide TBS with information on substandard goods in the market.

He urged SMEs to make use of the free opportunity to register their goods as well as food and cosmetics premises to scale up access to regional and global markets.

He said TBS will continue with the campaign in Tabora, Mtwara and Lindi regions.
