ACCREDITATION STATUS AND INFORMATION

In order to demonstrate technical competency, produce precise, accurate test and calibration results suitable for regulatory submission and statutory reporting, Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) has embarked on a programme to ensure that all its laboratories are accredited by the internationally recognized Accreditation Body, South African Development Community Accreditation Services (SADCAS).

Currently, the following laboratories are ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited:

 

1. Chemistry Laboratory

The laboratory is ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited by SADCAS in water and fuel matrices.

 

Parameters accredited in bottled drinking water, mineral water and potable water matrices are:

a) pH

b) Calcium

c) Alkalinity as CaCO3

d) Total dissolved solids

e) Total hardness as CaCO3

f)  Chloride as Cl

 

Parameters accredited in fuel matrices are:

a) Kinematic Viscosity

b) Density

c) Research Octane Number (RON)

d) Flash point, abel

e) Distillation.

 

2. Electrical Engineering Laboratory

The laboratory is ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited by SADCAS in electric cable matrix in the following parameters

 

  1. Conductor resistance
  2. Insulation thickness

 

3. Building and Construction Laboratory

The laboratory is ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited by SADCAS in cement matrix in the following parameters:

 

a) Initial setting time;

b) Soundness;

c) Early compressive strength; and

d) Standard compressive strength.

 

4. Food Chemistry Laboratory

The laboratory is ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited by SADCAS in the following parameters:

  1. Maize flour – Aflatoxin;
  2. Peanut slurry – Aflatoxin
  3. Peanut – Aflatoxin

d) Honey – moisture and HMF;

e) Soft drinks – pH and Brix

 

 

5. Mechanical Engineering Laboratory

The laboratory is ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited by SADCAS in metallic material in the following parameters:

 

a) Vickers hardness test;

b) Rockwell hardness test

c) Brinell hardness test

d) Tensile strength test

e) Chemical composition

 

6. Microbiology Laboratory

The Microbiology laboratory is ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited by SADCAS in the following matrices and parameters,

 

  1. Fish and fisheries products
  • Determination of Aerobic plate count
  • Enumeration of Coliforms
  • Enumeration of E. coli (Colony Count)
  • Detection of Salmonella
  • Enumeration of Staphylococcus aureus
  • Detection of Vibrio cholerae

 

 

  1. Potable water, Borehole water, bottled water, mineral water
  • Enumeration of Coliforms
  • Enumeration of E. coli
  • Enumeration of Enterococci
  1. Pasteurized milk
  • Enumeration of Coliforms (Colony Count)
  • Enumeration of E. coli (Colony Count)
  • Determination of Aerobic Plate Count

 

 

  1. Potable, Bottles & Mineral Water
  • Enumeration of P. Aeruginosa

7. Textile and Leather Laboratory

The laboratory is ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited by SADCAS in textile fabric material in the following parameter:

 

  1. Mass per unit area (GSM)

 

8. Packaging Technology Centre (PTC)

The PTC laboratory is ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited by SADCAS in Paper and Board in the following parameters:

 

  1. Bursting strength of Paper
  2. Bursting strength of board
  3. Grammage
