Compulsory Standards
A standard is published and declared by the Minister responsible for Industry and Trade as mandatory or compulsory after passing all the stages for Standards Development. A compulsory standard prescribes obligatory requirements or essential characteristics that are needed to ensure the usefulness of a product. Compulsory standards requirements are incorporated in technical regulations.
Whenever a standard covers a product that can affect health, safety, the environment or with significant impact to the national economy, such a standard is published as a compulsory standard. All other standards apart from the above described are recognized as voluntary standards.
