TBS opens the fourth phase of national Awards Competition.
Tanzania Bureau of standards (TBS) has opened the fourth phase of the National Awards Competition for the year 2023 that aims to encourage innovation and improvement of products and services.
Opening the competition over the weekend in Dar es salaam , Lazaro Msasalaga TBS acting Director General said producers and service providers need to build a culture of producing quality and competitive products in the country.
Msasalaga said applications for participation in the competition started on Saturday where they can be submitted in hard copy or various regions in the country.
He said one of the good measures taken by the government through the Ministry of industry and trade to promote local product is to create a culture of appreciating the quality of products in the country by establishing national quality awards as part of the incentive to various producers.
He also said the goals of establishing the awards including recognizing and congratulating individuals who have made a significant contribution to improving quality infrastructure, noting that competitions also aims to recognize institutions that perform well in terms of product quality during the implementation of their product production or service delivery activities.
“Our hope is that the awards competition for the fourth season in 2023, which we are launching today, will receive great enthusiasm from quality stakeholders and thus lead to productive competition in the products they produce,” he said.
He said the preparation, management and evaluation of the awards are evaluation of the awards are done by a special committee that involves various institutions and trade, the Tanzania private Sector Foundation (TPSF), TBS, Zanzibar Bureau standards (ZBS), Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA), and Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TANTRADE).
He said among the criteria used to find the winners is that is being done by the relevant institution or individual to increase the quality of products, services, efficiency in production or work performance in general.
Gasper Kahungya, TPSF representative said the competition is important because it will increase competition in the market, especially for producers of goods in the private sector.
He also congratulated TBS for organizing the competition, which is important for the private sector and the country as a whole, especially in ensuring the availability of quality products produced in the country.
Baraka Mbajiji, TBS coordinator of the Excellence Awards said the process of how to participate in the competition is to fill in the forms that are available on the TBS, TPSF and ZBS websites where the participant will fill in the form and sign based on the information according to each participation group.
“We welcome entrepreneurs and businessmen to use this opportunity to participate in this competition to show the quality of their products. The doors have already opened and the deadline for receiving these applications will be October 20 this year,” he said.
