The Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) has appealed to local entrepreneurs to use the ongoing Small Industries Development Organization(SIDO) exhibition and trade fair to acquire Standards Mark of Quality for their products.

Briefing reporters here on Saturday, TSB northern zone quality inspector Anderson Msumanje said the platform was an ideal opportunity for the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the northern zone to get Quality Marks.

“SMEs and other local manufacturers should make the most of the expo as TBS comes to their aid,” explained Mr Msumanje.

The bureau’s inspector said his office had already visited more than 68 SMEs, issuing them with Standard Marks of Quality. Mr Msumanje equally to send the applications to the bureau’s office pertaining the quality and safety of their products, saying the government has set aside enough funds for confirming an approval of such products before they make their way into the market.

According to the TBS officer, such marks are given for free, urging SMEs to make the most of the opportunity presented by the government. The “tbs” Standards Mark of Quality on a product indicates that samples of the product are independently and routinely tested and certified by the bureau against relevant Tanzania standards.

Apart from enabling people to buy products with confidence, the “tbs” Standards Mark of Quality also protect the manufacturers from competing with inferior products and enable them to prove to the market that their products satisfy all the requirements specified in the standards.

TBS is a national standards body for Tanzania established by the government as part of the efforts to strengthen the supportive infrastructure for industry and commerce sectors across the economy within the country.

The expo which began on October 19 comes to an end tomorrow, having featured SMEs from different parts of the country.
